Engineering
The Thames Gateway prides itself on the quality of its engineering industry. With engineering hubs in Southend-on-Sea, Medway, Swale, Basildon and Rainham, the region operates on a global level.
A major commercial aircraft maintenance centre with over 50 businesses on site is based at Southend Airport; international organisation BAE Systems, Delphi Diesel Systems, Seal and Fuji also have headquarters Medway and the Ford Motor Company has its home in Basildon. This makes the Thames Gateway an ideal location for like-minded organisations.
A major commercial aircraft maintenance centre with over 50 businesses on site and a growing commercial and leisure passenger service based at Southend Airport. Companies based there include Ipeco Holdings Ltd which designs, manufactures and supplies flight-deck seating for over 300 airlines and operators and Inflite Ltd which provides design, machining, fabrication, component repair, electrical loom manufacture, and surface treatment services, to the Aerospace and Defence Industries and has specialist aircraft maintenance facilities at the airport.
Home to global companies in the high tech, R&D, engineering and electronics sector such as Ford Motor Company, SELEX, Case New Holland (CNH) and Visteon, Basildon’s location within the Thames Gateway makes it an ideal base for like-minded organisations.
Based at Rochester, in the centre of the Thames Gateway, BAE Systems is a global company engaged in the development, delivery and support of advanced defence, security and aerospace systems in the air, on land and at sea.
BAE Systems has entered a partnership with private and public sector organisations to create the Medway Innovation Centre, an exciting incubator for high-tech and service business start-ups. The Centre aims to help entrepreneurs turn innovative ideas into thriving businesses.
Only 13 miles from Central London, Rainham is home to the Centre of Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME). CEME, is an innovative urban regeneration zone that supports the development of individuals and organisations with a specific focus on the Engineering, Manufacturing and Technology sectors.
