Swale

Swale, a key area within the Thames Gateway covering the Isle of Sheppey and Sittingbourne, has a number of outstanding developments. Major retailers including Aldi, Morrison’s Lidl’s are currently developing logistics centres within this vibrant area.

New Morrison’s at Sittingbourne; Aldi at Queenborough

SwaleMorrison’s, the nationwide grocery store has opened a new logistics centre in Sittingbourne, creating 1,300 new jobs.  The store chain chose to locate to the Thames Gateway as it is an ideal location, close to major transport links with good infrastructure in place and close to London and the wider South East.  In addition, its new location is in proximity to the good road links to the Port of Sheerness, opening up a major trade terminal for fresh produce from Europe and the Continent.

Morrison’s competitor, Aldi, has also decided to open a similar logistics facility at Queenborough on the Isle of Sheppey.  The Aldi development will comprise around 600,000 sq ft of HQ office building and distribution centre, creating at least 250 jobs directly and many more indirectly due to the company’s policy of sourcing local produce. The combined construction projects including the Aldi development, the site preparation works and new road will deliver some £40 million of construction over the next few years.
