University Of Essex
The University of Essex is one of the UK's leading academic institutions, rated ninth in the UK by The Times, The Guardian and The Independent, following the UK-wide Research Assessment Exercise in December 2008.
The University has more than 9,000 students, studying at three campuses across Essex. Academic departments span the humanities, social sciences, science and engineering, and law and management. Essex is the UK's most internationally diverse campus university, with students from 130 countries.
The largest, and original, campus is at Wivenhoe Park on the outskirts of Colchester. Set in over 200 acres of attractive parkland, the Colchester Campus is a mixture of 1960s buildings and more recent additions including the 1,000-seater Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.
Academic departments at the Colchester Campus are housed in a series of interlinked bustling squares. As well as teaching and research facilities, the Colchester Campus is also home to the Albert Sloman Library, shops, banks, restaurants and student accommodation.
The Southend Campus, opened in 2007, is based in the heart of Southend-on-Sea. Located on the High Street, the Gateway Building is the first of the Southend Campus developments and offers modern, state-of-the-art teaching and business environments. Students benefit from modern lecture rooms, rehearsal studios with panoramic sea views and high-tech medical skills labs.
The Southend Campus is also home to the Business Hub, a specialist resource for companies of all sizes, which aims to foster and promote economic sustainability.
The University’s Loughton Campus is home to students at East 15 Acting School. It is close to London, offering the freedom of theatres, arts and social events.
Founded in 1964, the University of Essex has grown in both reputation and size, developing a worldwide reputation for top quality teaching and research.
