London Gateway
Creating a global trading hub at the heart of the Thames Gateway
London Gateway is one of the key new
developments in the Thames Gateway. Based
on the South Essex shore of the River Thames
it will become one of the UK’s biggest ports and
Europe’s largest logistics park.
The project represents a £1.5 billion investment by DP World, one of the largest marine terminal operators with 49 marine terminals and 12 new developments across 31 countries. It has more than 30,000 employees in some of the most dynamic economies in the world.
Located on the North bank of the River Thames and close to the major Essex towns of Thurrock, Basildon and Southend-on-Sea, and only 25 miles from the centre of London; London Gateway will provide unrivalled shipping and logistics access to the South East of England via an integrated road, rail and sea network of globally strategic importance.
As well as a port facility able to berth the world’s largest ships and capable of handling an estimated 3.5 million containers a year, the London Gateway development will also host Europe’s largest logistics park. Integrated with the port operation, the logistics park will offer over 9 million sq ft of space for distribution, warehousing, manufacturing and office usage and is likely to become the premier logistics hub of the UK. Its location, so close to London, the ultimate destination for many of the goods imported to the UK, London Gateway has the potential to redefine the logistics strategy of the country. It will also reinstate London and the Thames as the UK’s premier port, and will save a vast amount of road mileage by utilising rail, river and short sea shipping routes. London Gateway truly is a globally strategic location.
